After retirement from professional football a decade ago Gavin has since used his knowledge that he acquired from the game to establish himself as a top football coach and prides himself on old school values as well as new creative development.

Consistent and disciplined his 312 games played in the Premier League and his reputation as one of the most competitive ball winners of his time has stood him in good stead to further his career as an elite coach.
Gavin is very comfortable in the environment of working for a professional football club at management level and has a great track record of developing professionals in the game.

Bolton Wanderers F.C 2011- 2015
Gavin was appointed to take the under 15 team immediately following retirement. Gavin defined and implement an effective long term development model for young players at the club.

Hyde United FC 2012-2013 (Part Time)
Gavin worked part time in a full time league as assistant manager. He helped the club hold their position in the league. This was helped by recruiting high potential players from the football league for example:Scott Hogan. Primary focus was achieved which was to stay in the National League.

Blackpool F.C 2015-2016
Head of Academy . Gavin oversaw all the academy coaching programs for all age groups up to 9-18s. He had regular academy meetings with the manager and chairman of Blackpool Football Club.

Bolton Wanderers F.C 2016-2020
Gavin returned to Bolton Wanderers football club as under 18s Academy Coach to develop players mentally and physically ready for the first team. He spoke daily with the first team manager on player pathways regarding first team training and matches. Examples of successful academy graduates Gavin worked with were Zac Clough, Luca Connell, Dennis Politic, Ronan Darcy and Robert Holding.
